A cello student's performance
This video is of the "performance exam "of my student Kiana Arnott-job at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. I taught Kiana on cello from October 2014 to May 2015. She had weekly (nearly) lessons. She had no previous experience—even listening—of Indian music. She played alap in rag Todi (shown here), followed by improvisations around the famous bandish "Garava main sanga laagi". This is an example of what systematic teaching can accomplish in a small amount of time. Well done, Kiana!
